Venues Covered

THE VENUE DECORATING SPECIALISTS

Venues Covered are an award winning event design and decoration team.

Steph and her husband Baz aim to add that extra touch of elegance and sparkle to your celebration or event through their attention to detail and personal service.

We have attended many weddings where Venues Covered have weaved their decoration magic and they have all looked absolutely stunning!

Below, Steph tells us a little bit more about herself and her business.

Where did your business name come from? When trying to come up with a good business name, we wanted to show that we are a company that could dress and cover any style of venue and different themes - and a flippant comment about every venue being covered turned into our business name - Venues Covered

How long has Venues Covered been up and running? Venues Covered officially started back in March 2011, and we decorated our first wedding in July 2011

How did you get into working in the wedding industry?

Prior to running this business, I used to be a teacher. Baz and I got married in August 2010 and we made a lot of the items we used on the day - invitations, lights, and even our dance floor!

Then, in the following January, I found out I was losing my job (as I was on a rolling temp contract) and then we found out we were pregnant with our eldest in the March. Rather than going back to work after our son was born, we wanted to create a business that could allow me to work around him, and I'd thoroughly enjoyed creating everything for our wedding, so decided that the wedding industry was something I could really get into...and I haven't looked back!

What's the most biggest wedding you have ever decorated?

I think the most involved we've been involved in is a wedding for 250 guests who had nearly everything that we could provide - drapery, chair covers, centrepieces, LOVE letters, lighting, dance floor...I think the only thing they didn't have were our giant blossom trees, and that’s because we honestly couldn't work out where we could put them! It looked absolutely amazing when we had finished, but it was a long slog...it took 40+ man-hours to create and dismantle, so was a very full on weekend (see right hand picture below)

Do you have any fun facts to tell us about a wedding or set up? In 2019, I hand tied over 13,000 chair bows, and put up enough drapery to cover a football field at least twice!

What do you love the most about your job?

I love being able to walk into a room and completely transform it...whether that is taking a blank canvas and covering it in beautiful drapery to give an indoor marquee effect, or adding that personal touch for our couples in grand and ornate venues.

When some weddings can take more than 10 hours to create, it really makes me proud looking at where we started and then where we end up.

Tell us some interesting fun facts about yourself

I'm a slight geek and complete Disney nerd at heart - absolutely love shows like Doctor Who and Game of Thrones, and some of my favourite films include Disney's Hercules and Lady and the Tramp. I've also been to Disney World 10 times, and planning on going back again in 2024!

How do you like to relax and unwind after a busy day or getting back late from packing down a wedding? Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Baz and I are like chalk and cheese when it comes to 'relaxing' - I like nothing more than chilling out on the sofa, watching some TV or a movie, or catching a little bit extra sleep. Baz likes to keep busy, and always has some project on the go (he's currently digging up the driveway for block paving that he'll lay!) Although, we do agree that when we've had a particularly hard or busy weekend, nothing beats having a good takeaway curry as a treat.

Have you got any new projects on the go?

We're currently working on some new floral elements to add to our stock that will look beautiful in a whole host of different venues - barns, stone buildings, full-window walls, and more...really excited to show them off once we've created the range!
