PROFESSIONALLY MADE LUXURIOUS WEDDING CAKES
Sarah Forward is the owner and award winning cake maker of Cakes by Mrs F. Specialising in vegan & gluten free wedding cakes, she designs and bakes everything from scratch using nothing but fresh ingredients.
We have had the pleasure of working with Sarah on numerous occasions and so we wanted to share a little bit about herself and her delicious cakes.
How long has Cakes by Mrs F been up and running?
As Cakes by Mrs F I have been running for 20 months now. I was formally Sugar, ice and all things nice for 8 years but shut my business to be a sugar craft teacher for The Bath Company. I missed making cakes too much so re-branded and opened in September 2018.
How did you get into working in the wedding industry?
I started making Birthday cakes for friends and family when our children were young. We were a blended family and I was a full time Mum to 6 Children under 13!! The cakes kept me sane and I made my best friends wedding cake. She then dragged me along to a wedding show as a supplier and I never looked back.
What is the most extravagant cake that you have ever made?
The most extravagant cake was a 21 tier cake that went to The Assembly Rooms in Bath. It was huge and I had to use a ladder to reach the top (see pics above)
Tell us some interesting fun facts about yourself or your business
Ohhh this is hard.
• I'm a Mum to six children, so I think I am pretty crazy.
• My cake company got its name as my Husband calls me Mrs F.
• I love gin and have a collection of over 50 bottles now!!!
• I turned down the chance to set up a cupcake company in Australia. It would have been amazing but I would never leave my family.
• I hate Maths with a passion! I got 8 G.C.S.E s 7 A's and an E in Maths.
• I used to be a community Nursery nurse and baby masseur.
Do you have any interesting stories to tell from a wedding? Have there ever been any cake mishaps?
I am very glad to say that no I have never had any cake mishaps thank goodness. Driving cake is the hardest bit of my job and I still hate every delivery.
I did a hanging upside down cake last summer and it was defiantly a challenge to construct. The poor man who had to take it apart to cut it said he had an audience of 70 tipsy guests watching him.
What do you love the most about your job?
I love playing a part in a couple’s special day and I love the fact that no cakes are the same, so my job is never boring.
How do you like to relax and unwind after a busy day of baking? Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Relaxing is not so easy. My days are very long especially in the summer or during a heat wave and I can sometimes still be baking at 2am. However I love spending time with my family and two crazy springer spaniels and a sneaky Costa with friends.
My guilty pleasures are Gin and chocolate.... not cake!
